Agenda Item:
2026 Antalya Conference
Committee description:
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is a process of negotiation to limit climate change based on an agreement between global actors as an international treaty. Limiting the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, reducing harmful effects of humanity on nature, and ensuring a green, self-sufficient, sustainable and renewable energy production system. It is merely a step to increase global participation for further cooperation, aiming to include every international actor to be a part of the process. The ultimate goal is to provide a better future for humanity while ensuring continuous growth and development, while creating opportunities for both workers and employers, without harming any fundamental national interests of member nations.
Conference of the Parties (COP), as a vital part of the United Nations Climate Change Conferences, serves as the formal meeting of the UNFCCC parties, giving opportunity for detailed assessment in dealing with climate change itself, through legally binding obligations for developped countries to reduce their emissions and put further effort in combatting global warming. It provides a profound platform for governments, non-government organisations (NGOs) and the private sector to cooperate and determine their strategies for future policies/actions. Certain resolutions and goals are set to be met by participating actors, with a rotating presidency each year.
This year COP31 shall be co-hosted by Türkiye and Australia between 9-20 November 2026, in Antalya, following a leadership bid last year. Coal subsidies in Türkiye, reduction of greenhouse emissions, a just transition to avert coal usage, sound adaptation policies and civil society participation are some of the vital topics of the meeting. Member nations & representatives must execute the best of their ability to ensure healthy generational growth and greener development to reduce the effects of climate change and ultimately lower global emissions.
